4-Oxo-3-phenyl-2-thioxo-1,2,3,4-tetrahydroquinazoline-7-carboxylic acid (PTQ) is a potent inhibitor of voltage gated sodium channels. PTQ binds to the extracellular domain of the alpha subunit of the voltage gated sodium channels and inhibits ion flux through the channel. This inhibition causes a reduction in neuronal activity and can be used as an experimental tool for research in cell biology, pharmacology and neuroscience. PTQ is also used as a ligand to study peptide receptors and antibodies.
