Norethindrone is an oral contraceptive that belongs to the class of steroid drugs. It is used in the treatment of premenstrual syndrome, menstrual disorders, and other conditions in women who are not pregnant. Norethindrone has a dose-dependent effect on blood pressure, with low doses decreasing blood pressure and high doses increasing it. Norethindrone also has an inhibitory effect on 3-hydroxyanthranilic acid (3HA), which may be used for the treatment of Parkinson's disease.
