It has been shown to be a potent and selective agonist for the melatonin receptor, with an EC50 of 0.4 nM. 2-(2-Bromo-5-hydroxyphenyl)acetic acid is also a potent microbial sodium hydrogen (MSH) receptor antagonist with an IC50 of 9 nM.
