2,5-Dimethyl celecoxib is a potent inhibitor of the enzyme cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2). It also inhibits autophagy, which is an intracellular process that degrades cellular components. 2,5-Dimethyl celecoxib has been shown to potently inhibit the production of PGE2 in mice with colon cancer and to induce apoptosis in human carcinoma cell lines by inhibiting the expression of survivin and MCL-1 proteins.
