Isomenthone is a natural product that belongs to the class of sesquiterpenoids. It is a racemic mixture of two enantiomers, (±)-isomenthone and (-)-isomenthone. Isomenthone has been shown to have herbicidal properties as well as insecticidal properties. It has been found to be effective against plant pathogens such as Pythium ultimum, Rhizoctonia solani, and Sclerotium rolfsii. The molecule also has the ability to inhibit the growth of bacteria due to its stereoselective nature. This property can be used in the future for the development of new antibiotics or antimicrobial agents. Isomenthone is also an antifungal agent that inhibits Candida albicans by inhibiting protein synthesis.
