It has been shown to have immunomodulatory effects in vivo and in vitro. a-Zingiberene has been shown to inhibit the inflammatory response of bowel disease by reducing the production of prostaglandins and leukotrienes. This compound also inhibits the release of lysosomal enzymes from neutrophils, which is involved in the inflammation process. This drug also has synergic effects with other drugs, such as steroids, which can be used for treatment of inflammatory bowel disease.
