3-[(4-Chlorophenyl)sulfamoyl]thiophene-2-carboxylic acid is an electrophotographic developer. It has been shown to be a useful material for interconnecting metals in x-ray crystallography and in the development of metal chelate antibiotics. 3-[(4-Chlorophenyl)sulfamoyl]thiophene-2-carboxylic acid can also act as an oxidation catalyst, amino acid sequence and to resist photoreceptor degradation. It is active against a wide range of microorganisms, including resistant strains such as methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). 3-[(4-Chlorophenyl)sulfamoyl]thiophene-2-carboxylic acid binds with β-lactamase, which prevents it from hydrolyzing the β lactam ring, thereby inhibiting bacterial growth.
