(+)-Vitamina D2, noto anche come ergocalciferolo, è una vitamina liposolubile che svolge un ruolo cruciale nel metabolismo del calcio e del fosforo nel corpo. Viene sintetizzato mediante irradiazione ultravioletta dell'ergosterolo, un composto presente nei lieviti e nei funghi. Questa vitamina è essenziale per mantenere la salute delle ossa e supportare la funzione immunitaria. Chimicamente, è caratterizzato dalla sua struttura steroidea, che include una configurazione di secosteroide a causa della rottura di uno dei suoi anelli.
