CAS:(3S,6R)-3-Isopropyl-6-methylcyclohexene is a triarylphosphonium salt of the triphenylphosphine type. It can be prepared by the reaction of benzoic acid with magnesium and then with methyl iodide. This compound is a useful starting material for synthesis of other organophosphorus compounds. The reaction conditions are not very sensitive to temperature and pressure, but it is advisable to use an inert solvent such as tetrahydrofuran or diethyl ether. (3S,6R)-3-Isopropyl-6-methylcyclohexene reacts slowly with chloride ions at room temperature, although the rate increases at higher temperatures.
