Dimenidrinato

Dimenidrinato è un antistaminico comunemente usato per prevenire e trattare nausea, vomito e vertigini causate dal mal d'auto. È una combinazione di difenidramina, un antistaminico, e 8-cloroteofillina, uno stimolante che contrasta gli effetti sedativi della difenidramina. La sostanza appare come una polvere cristallina bianca o bianco sporco ed è solubile in acqua, rendendola adatta per varie formulazioni, comprese compresse e soluzioni orali. Dimenidrinato agisce bloccando l'azione dell'istamina sui recettori H1 e ha proprietà anticolinergiche, che contribuiscono alla sua efficacia nell'alleviare i sintomi associati al mal d'auto. Il suo inizio d'azione si verifica generalmente entro 30 minuti a un'ora, con effetti che durano diverse ore. Sebbene generalmente ben tollerato, gli effetti collaterali potenziali possono includere sonnolenza, secchezza delle fauci e vertigini. Si consiglia cautela nell'uso di Dimenidrinato in concomitanza con altri depressori del sistema nervoso centrale o in individui con determinate condizioni mediche, come glaucoma o ingrossamento della prostata.
