N1,N1-Dimethyl-N4-[(pyridin-2-yl)methyl]benzene-1,4-diamine is a toolkit that can be used to inhibit the activity of monoamine oxidase and nitric oxide synthase. It has been shown to reduce the severity of stenosis in animal models. This drug is also effective against neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, multiple sclerosis, and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. N1,N1-Dimethyl-N4-[(pyridin-2-yl)methyl]benzene-1,4-diamine is a bifunctional molecule: it acts as an oxidase inhibitor and a monoamine oxidase inhibitor. The mechanism of action for this drug is not yet known but it has been shown to prevent the formation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) which may contribute to its neuroprotective effects
