Rapamicina, noto anche come sirolimus, è un composto macrolide con il numero CAS 53123-88-9. È prodotto dal batterio *Streptomyces hygroscopicus* ed è principalmente conosciuto per le sue proprietà immunosoppressive, rendendolo prezioso nei trapianti d'organo per prevenire il rigetto. Rapamicina agisce inibendo il bersaglio mammifero di Rapamicina (mTOR), un regolatore chiave della crescita cellulare, proliferazione e sopravvivenza. Questa inibizione porta a una riduzione dell'attivazione e proliferazione delle cellule T. Oltre ai suoi effetti immunosoppressivi, Rapamicina ha attirato attenzione per le sue potenziali proprietà antitumorali e il suo ruolo nella promozione della longevità in vari organismi modello.
