Cefmetazolo sodico è un antibiotico cefalosporinico semisintetico, classificato nel gruppo degli antibiotici beta-lattamici. È utilizzato principalmente per la sua attività antibatterica ad ampio spettro contro vari batteri Gram-positivi e Gram-negativi. Il cefmetazolo agisce inibendo la sintesi della parete cellulare batterica, portando alla lisi e alla morte cellulare. Il composto viene tipicamente somministrato per iniezione ed è efficace nel trattamento di infezioni come infezioni delle vie respiratorie, infezioni della pelle e infezioni del tratto urinario. È caratterizzato dalla sua stabilità contro alcune beta-lattamasi, il che ne aumenta l'efficacia contro ceppi batterici resistenti. CAS:<p>Cefmetazole sodium is a penicillin-type antibiotic that inhibits the synthesis of bacterial cell walls. It binds to the penicillin-binding proteins in the bacterial cell wall by competitive inhibition, preventing the formation of an antibiotic-inhibitor complex with the enzyme cell wall synthesis that is required for cell wall biosynthesis, inhibiting protein synthesis and cell division. Cefmetazole sodium has been shown to be active against a wide variety of bacteria, including gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. The drug's activity against most strains of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) has been confirmed. Cefmetazole sodium is used to treat infectious diseases such as pneumonia and urinary tract infections.
