It is found in the urine of patients with Gilbert's syndrome and can be used to identify this condition. 3-Bromo-4-methyl-2,5-dihydrofuran-2,5-dione can be oxidized to 3,3'-bichlorodihydrofuran by an oxidative technique that uses lc/ms as a detection method. This product is an isomeric form of 2,2'-bichlorooxirane and crystallizes in four different forms.
