11β-hydroxyprogesterone is a naturally occurring steroid hormone that is produced in the adrenal glands and the placenta. It is also a metabolite of progesterone. It has been found to have physiological levels in vitro and in cell culture experiments, where it has shown to stimulate epidermal growth factor (EGF) synthesis and inhibit protein transport.
