GW-590735 is a potent, non-peptide, orally bioavailable, small molecule activator of PPARs. It binds to the PPAR receptor and activates it by binding to the ligand binding domain, thereby increasing the expression of genes that are involved in lipid metabolism. GW-590735 has been shown to have anti-inflammatory effects in animal models of bowel disease, as well as beneficial effects on insulin sensitivity and energy homeostasis. GW-590735 has also been shown to activate PPARγ in cancer cells and reduce tumor growth. In addition, this drug has been shown to be effective for treatment of inflammatory diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis and Crohn's disease.
