L-Fenilalanina è un aminoacido essenziale che svolge un ruolo cruciale nella sintesi delle proteine ed è un precursore di diverse biomolecole importanti, inclusi neurotrasmettitori come dopamina, norepinefrina ed epinefrina. È classificato come un aminoacido non polare e aromatico a causa del suo gruppo fenilico, che contribuisce alle sue caratteristiche idrofobiche. L-Fenilalanina esiste in due forme enantiomeriche, con la forma L biologicamente attiva e utilizzata dal corpo.
