It binds to the catalytic domain of the flt3 tyrosine kinase and blocks the activation of this enzyme. This drug has been shown to inhibit the formation of leukocyte antigen-expressing cells in vivo, which may be due to its ability to inhibit erythropoiesis. The structural analysis revealed that AST-487 binds to a region on Kinesin that is close to its ATP binding site. This binding prevents ATP from interacting with Kinesin, thereby inhibiting its function.
