CAS:a-Me-Tyr-OH is a neurotoxin that binds to the 2-adrenergic receptor and inhibits neurotransmission. It has been shown to have a number of effects on monoamine neurotransmitters, including dopamine and serotonin. The binding of this compound to the 2-adrenergic receptor in the caudate putamen has been shown to be associated with behavioral changes in rats, including locomotor activity and exploratory behavior. This agent also affects neurochemical processes in the hippocampus, causing neuronal death. The effect of this compound on blood sampling is not known.
