It is used as a research tool in cell biology and pharmacology. 3-Cycloheptyl-3H-imidazo[4,5-b]pyridin-2-amine has been shown to inhibit the binding of GABA to the receptor, which prevents the opening of ion channels. This inhibition leads to an increase in potassium conductance. The drug also inhibits protein interactions with receptors, such as dopamine D1 and serotonin 5HT 1A .
