Menaquinone 4 2,3-epoxide

Menaquinone 4 2,3-epoxide is a metabolite of vitamin K2 (menadione) that is present in the human body. Menaquinone 4 2,3-epoxide is produced enzymatically from menaquinone 4 by epoxidase and is involved in the uptake of lipids by human osteoblasts. Menaquinone 4 2,3-epoxide can also stimulate pancreatic enzyme secretion and has been shown to have an effect on cholesterol metabolism in humans. The photostability of Menaquinone 4 2,3-epoxide has been investigated using chemical ionization mass spectrometry (CIMS). In addition, monoclonal antibodies have been developed for use with immunohistochemical staining procedures to identify this compound.
