Descrizione:
Iridio è un metallo di transizione denso e bianco argenteo che appartiene al gruppo dei metalli del platino, noto per la sua notevole resistenza alla corrosione e all'ossidazione. Ha un alto punto di fusione ed è uno dei metalli più resistenti alla corrosione, rendendolo prezioso in varie applicazioni industriali. Iridio si trova tipicamente in natura come un legame con altri metalli del gruppo del platino ed è spesso estratto da minerali di nichel e rame. Il suo numero atomico è 77 e presenta una varietà di stati di ossidazione, con +3 e +4 che sono i più comuni nei composti. Iridio è utilizzato in applicazioni ad alta temperatura, contatti elettrici e candele di accensione, così come nella produzione di alcuni tipi di catalizzatori. Inoltre, a causa della sua rarità e delle sue proprietà uniche, Iridio è utilizzato anche in strumenti scientifici specializzati e nel campo della gioielleria.
