Descrizione:
Niobio, con il simbolo chimico Nb e il numero CAS 7440-03-1, è un metallo di transizione noto per il suo alto punto di fusione e la sua eccellente resistenza alla corrosione. È un metallo grigio argenteo, duttile e facilmente modellabile. Niobio è utilizzato principalmente nella produzione di leghe di acciaio ad alta resistenza, che migliorano la resistenza e la tenacità dei materiali utilizzati nella costruzione e nella manifattura. Ha una struttura cristallina cubica centrata sul corpo e presenta proprietà superconduttrici a basse temperature, rendendolo prezioso in applicazioni come macchine per risonanza magnetica e acceleratori di particelle. Niobio è anche resistente all'ossidazione e può formare uno strato di ossido protettivo, che contribuisce alla sua durabilità in vari ambienti. Inoltre, è relativamente raro nella crosta terrestre e si ottiene principalmente da minerali come columbite e pirocloro. Grazie alle sue proprietà uniche, Niobio gioca un ruolo significativo nella tecnologia moderna e nella scienza dei materiali.
