Samario

Descrizione:
Samario è un elemento metallico di colore bianco argenteo classificato come un lantano nella tavola periodica, con il numero atomico 62. È relativamente stabile nell'aria e non si ossida facilmente, anche se può reagire con acqua e acidi per formare idrossido di Samario e sali di Samario. Samario presenta un alto punto di fusione ed è noto per le sue proprietà magnetiche, rendendolo utile nella produzione di magneti permanenti, in particolare magneti di Samario-cobalto, noti per la loro alta resistenza alla demagnetizzazione. Inoltre, Samario è utilizzato in varie applicazioni, inclusi reattori nucleari, dove funge da assorbitore di neutroni, e nella produzione di fosfori per tubi televisivi a colori e luci LED. L'elemento è tipicamente ottenuto da minerali come monazite e bastnasite, ed è spesso utilizzato sotto forma di leghe o composti. Gli isotopi di Samario hanno applicazioni in medicina, in particolare nel trattamento del cancro, grazie alle loro proprietà radioattive.
