Descrizione:
Olmio è un elemento delle terre rare con numero atomico 67 ed è rappresentato dal simbolo Ho. È un metallo bianco argenteo che fa parte della serie dei lantanidi nella tavola periodica. Olmio è noto per la sua relativamente alta suscettibilità magnetica ed è uno dei più magnetici di tutti gli elementi. Ha un punto di fusione di circa 1.474 gradi Celsius e un punto di ebollizione di circa 2.545 gradi Celsius. Olmio è relativamente stabile nell'aria e non si ossida facilmente, anche se può reagire con acqua e acidi. È utilizzato principalmente in varie applicazioni, tra cui reattori nucleari, laser e come drogante in alcuni tipi di vetro e ceramica per migliorare le loro proprietà ottiche. I composti di Olmio, come l'ossido di Olmio, sono anche utilizzati nella produzione di magneti specializzati e in applicazioni mediche, in particolare nella chirurgia laser. A causa della sua rarità e delle sue proprietà specifiche, Olmio è di interesse sia nella ricerca scientifica che nelle applicazioni industriali.
