terz-butanolo, noto anche come 2-metilpropan-2-olo, è un liquido incolore e infiammabile con un odore caratteristico di alcol. È classificato come alcol terziario a causa della presenza di un gruppo idrossile (-OH) attaccato a un atomo di carbonio che è connesso ad altri tre atomi di carbonio. Questa struttura contribuisce alla sua reattività relativamente bassa rispetto agli alcoli primari e secondari. terz-butanolo è solubile in acqua e funge da solvente per vari composti organici, rendendolo utile nella sintesi chimica e nelle applicazioni industriali. Ha un punto di ebollizione e una pressione di vapore moderati, che consentono di evaporare facilmente a temperatura ambiente.
