Clorotrifluorometano, noto anche come CFC-13 o R-13, è un gas incolore e inodore a temperatura e pressione ambiente. È un alogeno con la formula chimica CClF3, composto da un atomo di cloro e tre atomi di fluoro attaccati a un atomo di carbonio. Questo composto è notevole per il suo basso punto di ebollizione e alta stabilità, rendendolo utile come refrigerante e in varie applicazioni industriali. Chlorotrifluoromethane has a high dielectric constant, which means it can withstand high voltage and heat. This property makes it an excellent solvent for many organic compounds and solvents. The solubility of chlorotrifluoromethane increases with increasing temperature, pressure, or when dissolved in other liquids. Chlorotrifluoromethane is mainly used as a solvent in analytical chemistry because of its low boiling point and high volatility. In addition to being volatile, chlorotrifluoromethane also has strong hydrogen bonding properties which allow it to be easily removed from solutions after analysis by gas chromatography or mass spectrometry.
