CAS:3-Aminoisonicotinic acid is a molecule that can be used to measure the metabolic activity of microbes. 3-Aminoisonicotinic acid has been shown to be effective in preventing bacterial growth and the production of hydrogen sulfide, which is associated with the development of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. The chemical reactions that occur when 3-aminoisonicotinic acid is mixed with hydrogen peroxide and nitric oxide have also been studied. 3-Aminoisonicotinic acid has also been shown to inhibit histone methylation as well as glutamate uptake in cells, suggesting possible therapeutic applications for neurology.
