But-1-ene-1,3-diyldibenzene is a molecule that has been shown to be an efficient substrate for the oxidation of 1,4-butadienes. It also shows stereoselective reactivity towards nitro groups. The model system for this reaction consists of palladium complexes and solid catalysts. The reaction products are acid catalyzed and include cationic polymerization. But-1-ene-1,3-diyldibenzene has a high phototransformation rate in the presence of trifluoromethanesulfonic acid and can be used as photooxidation agent for the synthesis of trifluoride anions.
