Loratadina è un antistaminico di seconda generazione comunemente usato per alleviare i sintomi allergici come naso che cola, starnuti e occhi pruriginosi. È caratterizzato dal suo antagonismo selettivo dei recettori H1 periferici, che aiuta a minimizzare gli effetti collaterali comuni associati agli antistaminici di prima generazione, come la sedazione. Loratadina è una polvere cristallina bianca o quasi bianca che è praticamente insolubile in acqua ma solubile in solventi organici come etanolo e metanolo. In recent studies, it was found that loratadine is a potent HR1 antagonist with in vitro inhbitory effect on human mast-cell lines, HMC-1 (from mast cell leukaemia) with an IC50 between 10 and 50 μM.
