Angeloylgomisin O is a hypoglycemic compound that has been found to have anti-inflammatory effects. It is derived from the oleanonic acid, which can be found in many fruits and vegetables, such as the tomato and strawberry. Angeloylgomisin O was shown to inhibit signal pathways of inflammatory diseases, such as kidney fibrosis. It has also been shown to reduce dry weight in diabetic patients. Angeloylgomisin O is a specific inhibitor of protein kinase C delta (PKCδ), which is involved in the progression of kidney fibrosis in diabetes. The compound also inhibits the activity of fructus and mcf-7, two enzymes that are responsible for producing proinflammatory cytokines and chemokines, respectively.
