3-Methyl 2H-furo[2,3-c]pyran-2-one (3MHFP) is a plant hormone that belongs to the group of butenolides. It is a karrikin and has been shown to have a variety of physiological effects in plants. 3MHFP binds to specific receptors on the plasma membrane, which causes an increase in Ca++ and K+ ion flow through cell membranes.
