CAS:m-Iodobenzylguanidine hemisulfate (MBG) is an anti-cancer compound that inhibits the uptake of fatty acids by the mitochondria, leading to cell death. MBG has been shown to have a high affinity for cardiac fatty acid binding protein and low affinity for human serum albumin. MBG has been used in the diagnosis and treatment of infectious diseases, autoimmune diseases, and as a radiation sensitizer. MBG is also used in diagnostic radiology as a contrast agent for myocardial perfusion imaging. The uptake of MBG is dependent on the presence of specific receptors, which are located on the cell membrane. These receptors are called carboxy terminal (CT). It has been shown that CT-1 is involved in the uptake of MBG into cells and that CT-2 may be involved in its metabolism.
