CAS:4-Biphenylcarboxylic acid is an antimicrobial agent that belongs to the group of phenolic compounds. 4-Biphenylcarboxylic acid has been shown to have pharmacological properties, including receptor activity and inhibition of GABA synthesis. It also has been shown to be a potent inhibitor of bacterial growth in vitro and in vivo. 4-Biphenylcarboxylic acid inhibits the production of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) and reduces its levels in the brain. This drug also has shown to be a competitive antagonist at GABA receptors, which are found on neurons in the central nervous system. Magnetic resonance spectroscopy studies have shown that this compound binds with high affinity to GABA receptors and decreases their binding affinity for GABA.
