5-Chloro-2-(propan-2-yloxy)aniline is an analog of the substrate of glucocerebrosidase, which is an enzyme that breaks down the sugar galactose. 5-Chloro-2-(propan-2-yloxy)aniline has been shown to inhibit the activity of this enzyme and thereby reduce the symptoms of Gaucher disease. It also inhibits other hydrolases, such as acid phosphatase and esterase. The selectivity of 5-chloro-2-(propan-2-yloxy)aniline for glucocerebrosidase over other hydrolases may be due to modifications in its structure or chaperone molecules that bind to the enzyme.
