It is used in the synthesis of β-lactams and other heterocycles, such as enantiopure and enantiomerically pure β-lactams. 8-Azabicyclo[5.2.0]nonan-9-one is also used as an antimicrobial agent against Gram negative bacteria, including Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Salmonella typhi, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa.</p>
