CAS:3-Toluic acid is a colorless liquid that is soluble in water and organic solvents. 3-Toluic acid is an inhibitor of bacterial growth that has been shown to be effective against certain strains of Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. 3-Toluic acid inhibits the growth of bacteria by reacting with a hydrogen bond in their ribosomal RNA to block the production of proteins vital for cell division. It also disrupts the normal metabolic pathways of bacteria by inhibiting microbial metabolism.
