Fullerene-C60, comunemente noto come buckminsterfullerene, è una molecola sferica composta da 60 atomi di carbonio disposti in una struttura che assomiglia a un pallone da calcio, con 12 facce pentagonali e 20 esagonali. Questo alotropo di carbonio presenta proprietà uniche, tra cui alta stabilità, notevole affinità elettronica e la capacità di agire come un semiconduttore. Fullerene-C60 è insolubile in acqua ma solubile in solventi organici come toluene e benzene.
