Barium titanium oxide is a dielectric ceramic widely used in multi-layer ceramic capacitors (MLCCs), embedded decoupling capacitors (EDC) and ceramic filters. It is a piezoelectric and ferroelectric component used in microphones and transducers. It is also useful for thermistors and self-regulating electric heating systems. It is doped with small amounts of metals like scandium, yttrium, neodymium, samarium to become a semiconductor. It is used in some types of uncooled sensors for thermal cameras and in electric vehicles. This Thermo Scientific Chemicals brand product was originally part of the Alfa Aesar product portfolio. Some documentation and label information may refer to the legacy brand.
