β-Glycerolphosphate (Glycerol-2-Phosphate) is used in the development of hydrogels and scaffolds that have applications in tissue engineering and cell growth and differentiation. It is a phosphate group donor in matrix mineralization studies that acts as a protein phosphatase inhibitor. Accelerates calcification in vascular smooth muscle cells.
