Descrizione:The 6-Fluoro-3-indoxyl-beta-D-galactopyranoside is an effective antituberculosis drug from the rifamycin class. It is known for its potent bactericidal activity against tuberculosis infection. This active compound works by inhibiting bacterial growth through binding to DNA-dependent RNA polymerase, preventing transcription and replication. The efficacy of this drug has been demonstrated through various tests, including the patch-clamp technique on human erythrocytes. It undergoes metabolic transformations such as hydrolysis by esterases or glucuronidases, oxidation by cytochrome P450 enzymes, reduction by glutathione reductase, or conjugation with glucuronic acid. Additionally, it specifically targets markers expressed in Mycobacterium tuberculosis strains, inhibiting their growth in culture.
