Descrizione:Phenylmercuric acetate is a chemical compound that belongs to the class of organomercury compounds. It is used as a fungicide and bactericide in agriculture and veterinary medicine, and has been shown to inhibit the growth of bacteria by disrupting the cell membrane. Phenylmercuric acetate inhibits enzyme activities in model systems, such as polymerase chain reactions (PCR). This inhibition can be reversed by addition of potassium dichromate or sodium borate. The compound also interacts with water vapor from the air, forming stable complexes that are toxic to plants and microorganisms. Phenylmercuric acetate has an optimum pH range of 5-8 and is active against infectious diseases caused by bacteria, fungi, parasites, or viruses.
