1,3-Dibromo-2-propanol (stabilized with Copper chip) is an organic compound that belongs to the group of diacids. It is a colorless liquid with a pungent odor. 1,3-Dibromo-2-propanol has been synthetically prepared from hexane and allyl bromide. The product can be used agriculturally as a halogenated hydrocarbon solvent or as an intermediate in the synthesis of other chemicals. 1,3-Dibromo-2-propanol reacts with nucleophiles such as halides and carboxylates to produce unsymmetrical aldehydes.
