Descrizione

24-methylene-cholesterol is a sesquiterpene lactone that has been shown to have antimicrobial properties. It inhibits the growth of bacteria by binding to the enzyme cholesterol esterase, which is required for the production of bile acids and is found in high concentrations in liver cells. The inhibitory dose of 24-methylene-cholesterol was determined to be 0.2 μg/mL in tissue culture experiments. It also has been shown to bind with calmodulin, which may indicate a potential use as an anti-inflammatory agent. This molecule has been shown to have significant fatty acid content, and its physiological effects have been demonstrated in vitro.br>br>
