Butyl n-octanoate has been shown to catalyze the reaction of hydrogen fluoride with hydrochloric acid and ethyl decanoate under acidic conditions. This reaction produces butanol and surface methodology as reaction products. Butyl n-octanoate also reacts with hydroxy groups on glycol ethers to produce hydroxymethoxypropane, which is an intermediate precursor for producing magnetic particles.
