2,3-Dihydroxynaphthoquinone is a ligand that binds to the active site of the viral protease. It is a potent antiviral agent that inhibits the replication of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) in culture and has shown activity against other viruses such as poliovirus and influenza virus.
