(3-Methylbut-2-en-2-yl)benzene is a cyclopentyl compound with a hydrophilized molecule. It has an acidic nature and can be used as a crosslinker, linking amino acids together to form polymers. (3-Methylbut-2-en-2-yl)benzene can also be used as a linker in the synthesis of linear polymers, which are made up of repeating units. This chemical reacts with hydroxyl groups to form esters and amides. (3-Methylbut-2-en-2-yl)benzene is used as a polymerization initiator in organic solvents to produce linear polymers that have functional groups on the end of each molecule. The number of daltons in this chemical determines its solubility in water.
