Descrizione

Carbophenothion is a pesticide that is used in agriculture and on food crops. It is an acetylcholinesterase inhibitor, which means that it blocks the enzyme that breaks down the neurotransmitter acetylcholine. In rats exposed to sublethal doses of carbophenothion, enzyme activities are reduced in both liver and brain tissues. Carbophenothion has been shown to react with proteins to form polymeric matrices in rat livers. These matrices are toxicological studies and can lead to protein synthesis inhibition. Carbophenothion's toxicity may also be due to its ability to inhibit fatty acid synthesis, which leads to decreased production of energy in the cell. This pesticide has been shown to have carcinogenic effects in animal studies.END>>
