Copper(II) tartrate hydrate is a compound that is used in wastewater treatment. It is insoluble, and so it can be used to remove organic compounds from water without removing the copper ions. Copper(II) tartrate hydrate has been shown to have regulatory properties, as well as being used for the detection of copper by diffraction microscopy. It has been shown to be ecologically safe for aquatic life in small doses, but may pose an environmental risk if released into larger quantities. This compound is also known to cause ecological damage when released into the environment, specifically through its effects on stakeholders such as humans and animals.
