It has been found to be active in the reaction products of hexadecane, heptadecane, octadecane, and nonadecane. Heptadecyl acetate also has pheromone activity as it can be used for trapping insects. It is an aromatic hydrocarbon with a fatty acid attached at the end of a long aliphatic chain. This compound is used as an emollient and solvent in cosmetics and pharmaceuticals. Heptadecyl acetate has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties when reacted with butyric acid.
